About Me

I was a second-career teacher, newly retired. In my other life, I crunched numbers as an accountant. Probably would have made a great math teacher had the thought occurred to me. No matter, I'm where I'm supposed to be. I have 2 grown daughters, 2 sons-in-law, a baby granddaughter, 2 poodles, and 1 hubby. I live and worked on Long Island.

What is a pansy?

In winter, the pansy pushes her way through the snow defiantly, determined.

Heroically she gives us confidence.

Insisting she declares

that like her, we have power over the ties that bind.

But in spring,

her elusive beauty

tricks us

into believing she is delicate,

that she is merely a showy bloom.

Today, a telltale sign of what is to come.

Her distinct ability to withstand cold-hearted days.

"Be strong, for spring will soon arrive," she cheers us on.

  1. Those early blooms are a lot like cheers. Telling us, not much longer, warmer days are coming! Today was so beautiful here in Michigan. Sunny, warm even--in the 40's. Felt like spring with some melting still left to go. A subtle reminder that winter lingers, but I appreciate bits of spring poking out here and there.
